About Me
Most people go to India or Thailand to find themselves.
Instead, I find myself in ‘La La Land’. Aka Los Angeles.
It all started with a home-study career coaching course. It was a typically cold and rainy English evening during the summer of 2009. I went up to my office in the attic to listen to the latest CD in the course. It was all about dreaming and brain storming to find your dream career. I’d had a long day at work. I was really a bit tired.
One of the exercises was creating a vision board using pictures and words from magazines which you stick onto a large piece of paper or card. I hadn’t done anything like that since I was a kid and lovely making collages. I felt strangely excited though.
That night and over the next two weeks, I worked on it.
I loved it.
When I had finished, I looked at it. Some of the pictures really struck me. They were of sun and sea. I realised what I had known for a long time. I really, really wanted to live abroad (or ‘overseas’ if you are not from England).
I talked to my husband about it. We’d spoken about the idea before and he was open to it.
It was about a month later that we got an opportunity to come and live in Los Angeles. It was a great opportunity. We decided to go for it.
Since then I’ve found out more about vision boards. They can be used for everything from career coaching, like mine, to helping kids to decide what career to go for, business people to get fired up and focussed about their business, to just working out what you want more of in your life.
People have different views about how and why they work. But most people who’ve used them agree they work.
I now find myself in the ideal place to find out more about this, since California is such a self-help mecca. Read my blog and you’ll see what I mean.
Get in touch if you would like to trade links or share anything to do with vision boards.
I would especially like to see examples of vision boards and hear stories about them – see ‘The Experiment’ page.
Thanks for reading.
And remember….dream on!
NB: The excellent home study course I mentioned is by Kathryn Entwistle and is called ’90 Days to your Dream Career’.
Thanks Kathryn.
